Clergy News Around the Diocese - Synod Week 2017 (May21-27)


The Bishop has made two appointments to replace outgoing Regional Deans the Reverend Craig Tanksley (Peace Arch) and the Reverend Heidi Brear (Kingsway). Following consultation with their respective colleagues in each deanery the Bishop has appointed the Reverend Stephen Laskey, Regional Dean of Peace Arch and the Reverend Canon Kevin Hunt, Regional Dean of Kingsway.  Both new Regional Deans will be installed at Synod and begin their two-year terms then.

The Venerable Stephen Muir, D Min will be collated at Synod as the Archdeacon of Capilano.  Archdeacon Muir has just recently been awarded a Doctor of Ministry degree at Trinity College, University of Toronto.  We extend congratulations on this achievement.

Ms Melanie Delva transitions out of her role as Diocesan Archivist on May 27th and begins her new work as Reconciliation Animator for the General Synod on June 1st 2017.

The Reverend Michael McGee has resigned as Rector of the Parish of St Christopher, West Vancouver effective June 4th, 2017.  Michael will be undertaking an interim contract as a chaplain at CFB Borden.

The Reverend Jessica Schaap has resigned as Rector of the Parish of St Paul, Vancouver effective July 31, 2017.

St Oswald’s will have a new Vicar on June 1, 2017 in the person of the Reverend Gordon Shields.  Gordon succeeds the Reverend Tim Dutcher-Walls who begins on the same day as Vicar of St David, Delta.

The Bishop has appointed the Reverend Miranda Sutherland as Rector of Christ Church, Hope.  Miranda’s appointment is effective on September 1, 2017 and her induction will be on Monday, September 11, 2017 at 6pm. More details will follow.
