Parishioners at Saint Catherine of Alexandria in Port Coquitlam had noticed Derek Weir's growing hair. By early March, Derek had a very impressive mop.

One Sunday morning. Derek stood before the congregation and said, "The next time you see me, I will be as bald as my dad."

Derek's plan was to donate his hair to Locks of Love, a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss. He also invited friends, family and the people of Saint Catherine's to sponsor his hair removal.

One week later, Derek appeared, to applause, with a shaven head. Not only did he donate a well-kept head of hair, but he raised more than $325 for his cause.
