The Rev. Harold McSherry, 1919-2008
The Rev. Harold McSherry, former missionary to Japan and later rector at St. Alban's, Richmond, and St. Paul's, Vancouver, died in Vancouver October 15 after a short struggle with cancer.
 
Born in Liverpool, England in 1919, he immigrated to Saskatchewan in 1939. He studied theology at Emmanuel College at the University of Saskatoon. His first parish was in Beaverlodge, Alberta. He married Muriel (May) McSherry in 1946. Following study of Japanese at Yale University in Connecticut, he served in Japan from 1950 till 1957, leaned and spoke the language well, and continued contact with many Japanese friends all his life.
 
The McSherrys returned to Richmond, BC, where he took charge of St Alban's until 1974. His next ministry was St Paul's in the West End of Vancouver. He retired from St. Paul's in 1985, but continued with a number of part time ministries. His wife predeceased him and he is survived by sons David and Michael, their wives, two grandchildren, and two nephews and a niece. The memorial service was at St. Paul's on October 24.
