Louise Cooper of St. George, Maple Ridge, as a youth delegate was one of four people from the Diocese of New Westminster at the Council of General Synod in Mississauga in November – one of the larger contingents to the body that is in charge of the Anglican Church of Canada between national synods. The others were Bishop Michael Ingham, the diocesan delegate to “COGs”; Dean Peter Elliott, the vice chair or “Prolocutor”; and Denise Hambidge, who represents the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund.

The Rev.  John Blyth, until recently in the Solomon Islands as a member of the Melanesian Brotherhood, is adjusting to being back in Canada. He is a member of St. James, Vancouver, and has leased a place near the church.

Ordinations on December 4: To the transitional diaconate, the Rev. Paul Guitan, curate at St. Andrew’s, Langley, and St. Oswald, Port Kells, Surrey; to the priesthood, the  Rev’s. Craig Vance, priest-in-charge of Christ the Redeemer, Surrey, Craig Luccock, curate at St. Francis-in-the-Wood and Sorrento Centre (in summer), Marnie Paterson, curate at St. Alban’s, Richmond, and Elizabeth Ruder, curate at St. Philip’s, Vancouver. The Rev. Angus Stuart preached to a Cathedral full of relatives and friends.

Bob Stewart, archivist for BC Conference of the United Church, died suddenly on November 15. At the Vancouver School of Theology for years he worked alongside Anglican Archivist Doreen Stephens, and before that Garth Walker. Doreen, by the way, retired at year’s end.

Bishop Michael Ingham has appointed Heidi Brear, formerly of St. Agnes and St. Faith, to be curate at Christ Church Cathedral. The Rev. Ellen Clark-King title has changed from half-time pastoral associate to full-time priest associate at the Cathedral, on an interim basis for six months.

In February the Rev. Carla McGhie, who has been at All Saints, Ladner, will move to St. Simon’s, Deep Cove.
