Bishop Michael Ingham examines deacon candidates Larry Atkins of St. John, Sardis, Len Dyer, Epiphany Church, Surrey, Carole Neilson, St. Christopher, West Vancouver, and Eileen Nurse, St. George, Fort Langley, in a ceremony June 26 at Christ Church Cathedral.

The Mission to Seafarers Society at a dinner this summer at the Cannery Restaurant honoured the volunteer work of Fred and Jackie Jay. They both received an Honorary Lifetime Membership in the Society from board chair Glen Mitchell.

Fred and Jackie were presented with a framed certificate and a bouquet of flowers and their names have been added to the permanent plaque which resides at the Mission’s Vancouver waterfront location.

On June 19 at Christ Church Cathedral, Bishop Michael ordained Craig Luccock, Marlece Peterson, Elizabeth Ruder and Craig Vance to the transitional diaconate.

While the Rev. Paula Porter-Leggett was preaching, the Vancouver Fire Department (complete with axes drawn) made a guest appearance in response to an alarm set off while incense was being dispersed. An event not soon forgotten!

Stuart Isto (former deacon for the Jubilee Cluster) and wife Elizabeth have moved to Powell River to a change of life style and ministry in a new community. Stuart has a long history labouring in the ministry to the marginalized among us.

Coming to work physically in the Diocesan Offices, while still employed by the Partnership Department of the national church, is Andrea Mann, regional mission coordinator for Partners in Mission for Asia, the Pacific, and the Middle East. She will visit throughout British Columbia during her stay through the end of the year.
