Beginning on Reign of Christ Sunday, November 2016, and continuing through this Lenten season, the PWRDF Diocesan Unit is encouraging parishes to support the purchase of Solar Suitcases for installation in remote medical clinics in Mozambique supported by the PWRDF partner organization EHALE. Among other benefits as part of the All Mothers and Children Count Program funded on a 6:1 matching basis by Global Affairs Canada these suitcases allow for the provision of a reliable light source for vital medical procedures such as childbirth. A Power Point showing their installation and use in Mozambique and other related material may be found for download below. Further updates on their use will be provided when received from PWRDF.

As part of their Lenten studies and worship parishes are encouraged to make use of the Lent 2017 resource prepared by PWRDF which has suggested daily scriptural readings, hymns, psalms, and prayers and stories from PWRDF partners. It may be found for download here. In addition, the diocesan unit will be distributing suggested Prayers of the People for the Lenten season.

The diocesan unit is most grateful to all those who offered their generous support for the Itabo Cuba Greenhouse fundraiser undertaken by the diocesan unit last year. A total of $8589 was raised surpassing the target of $8000. Funds were forwarded to the Episcopal Diocese of Cuba in November and we look forward to sharing updates and photos as the project proceeds.

Our diocese will again be participating in the Ride for Refuge. Last year two teams, the Divine Dashers from St. John the Divine in Maple Ridge and Team PWRDF Vancouver, rode in support of PWRDF with many members of the diocese offering their support. Please plan on being part of this year’s fun event for a great cause on September 30.

Please find attached below a downloadable PDF of an information letter from Christine Hills of PWRDF in Toronto. This information is for parish PWRDF reps and clergy.

The diocesan unit welcomes invitations from parishes to visit and share the stories of PWRDF during worship time or on other occasions. Along with parish representatives in its efforts to seek creative ways of sharing the inspiring stories of PWRDF with the diocese the unit would  welcome new members. For further information on diocesan unit membership or to arrange a parish visit please contact Peter Goodwin, Chair of the unit by email at goodmac22@gmail.com or by phone at 604-929-6143.
