PWRDF (Primates Worldwide Relief and Development Fund) has sent an initial grant of $20,000 to the National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP)—a long time PWRDF partner– through the ACT Alliance. This grant is helping to provide food packs and water, clothing, temporary shelter, hygiene kits, and medical supplies to some of the 3.7 million people affected by flooding brought on by several devastating typhoons and tropical storms in the last two months.
Father Rex Reyes, General Secretary of the NCCP, reports that churches have opened their doors as sanctuaries, providing temporary shelter to those who have had to evacuate their homes and communities.

Once the initial needs are met, work will begin on rebuilding homes and community infrastructure that has been damaged or destroyed by the floods. Support will also be given to help people return to work. Most of those affected are farmers and fishers, so seed, seedlings, farm tools, and fruit tree saplings will be provided to about 1000 families, and supplies and capital provided to another fifty families to help them rebuild their businesses.
