Donations for tsunami relief collected by the primary Canadian Anglican international aid organization, the Primate's World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF), will be matched by the federal government.

PWRDF's headquarters in Toronto was informed on Jan. 11 by the Canadian International Development Agency that a senior level government committee had reviewed PWRDF's request to be eligible for matching funds and approved it. CIDA has posted PWRDF on its website as an eligible organization.

While PWRDF has been a partner with the Canadian International Development Agency for more than twenty years, the government agency took a week to respond to PWRDF's request to be designated for matching funds.

Funds for humanitarian relief in South Asia donated to the Primate's fund are being channeled through Action by Churches Together (ACT) International, a global alliance of churches and related agencies based in Geneva, Switzerland, which mobilized humanitarian relief operations in India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Thailand, hours after the tragedy struck.
