Like many of the churches in the Diocese of New Westminster the Parish of the Church of the Epiphany, Surrey enthusiastically braved the rain and wind that swept through much of the Lower Mainland during the morning of March 28, 2010 to celebrate Palm Sunday with a procession.
At Church of the Epiphany, worship began in the Parish Hall with distribution of Palm Crosses and then the clergy team of Incumbent, the Venerable Stephen Rowe and Deacon, the Reverend Len Dyer led the community in the Liturgy of the Palms.
As the rain pelted the Surrey neighbourhood the handlers of Remmington the donkey coaxed the friendly creature out of his refuge and outfitted him in purple with a Palm Cross displayed on his bridle. Then with Remmington in the lead a large percentage of the congregation braved the rains and followed the donkey out into the neighbourhood singing “We Have a King Who Rides a Donkey” and “All Glory Laud and Honour” led by Director of Music, Elizabeth Gilchrist on trumpet. Following the procession it was back into the sanctuary for the Passion Sunday Eucharist. It was a pleasure to worship with this friendly and welcoming community.
