Serving as Chair of the Stewards in Action Ministry Committee and the 2005 SIA The Heart of the Diocese campaign is challenging me to a deepening awareness of the warmth and the generosity of the people of this diocese. I know you are responding to the many tragedies and calls for support to the suffering in this community and especially, at this moment, in South Asia.

Anglicans are kind and hospitable people. I have seen your concern as you open your parish doors and your hearts to the cold, the homeless and the hungry. I know that many of you have contributed to assist the victims of the destruction brought about by the earthquake and tsunami. You have given support to your parish meal programs, assistance to the addicted and training to enable the less fortunate to create whole, healthy lives for themselves.

You are a people of compassion called by a compassionate God to love your neighbour. I am proud to say that I am a Christian and an Anglican in this time, place and position. I am privileged to be able to say thank you.

Thank you for supporting the ministry of Stewards in Action. Thank you on behalf of the refugees, the poor, the homeless, the hungry and the cold. Thank you for being my companions as we continue on this journey toward the One who is all compassion and love.

Beth Johnson, chair of Stewards in Action Ministry Committee
