Bishop Melissa Skelton has announced that the Mission Conference scheduled for May 14 will have its registration deadline extended from April 29 to MAY 3.

Here is the announcement:

"May 14th's Mission Conference is shaping up to be an excellent day. You do need to register in order for our hosts at Musqueam Community Centre and Cultural Education Resource Centre to adequately prepare for us. We will extend the registration to May 3rd but will not be able to take late-comers after that. The theme for the day is God So Loves the World: Mission Globally, Locally, and In Everyday Life.

The speakers we are having reflect on the theme with us include:
  • Our own George Cadman, Chancellor of the Diocese, talking not about legal matters but about how his faith shapes him for mission.
  • Ms. Felly Farinas, a committed, amazing lay woman from Bishop Hill's Memorial Church of St. Mary the Virgin, South Hill, Vancouver, will also reflect on how faith shapes her for God's work in the world.
  • The Reverend Pitman Potter, a deacon on the Westside of Vancouver who has been active in that region's efforts to respond to homelessness, who will talk about mission in the local community.
  • Dr.  Andrea Mann, Director for Global Relations, Anglican Church of Canada, on how the call to mission globally relates to our local and everyday work.

In addition, Bishop Brent Alawas and Attorney Floyd Lawlet from the Episcopal Diocese of the Northern Philippines will be offering a workshop and Bishop Alawas will be speaking at the optional dinner on Saturday night.

The Conference is open to ALL members of the Diocese. Please consider bringing at least one member of your parish with you. Details, including descriptions of the workshop offerings can be found on the Mission Conference pages on this diocesan website  and here is  a direct link to the the registration page.

I would appreciate it if you would share information about the Mission Conference through your websites and social media postings this week. Let's get the word out!"

Registration questions can be sent to Phil Colvin and questions about the Conference more generally can be addressed to Ruth Monette.
