The Friday May 6th edition of The Surrey North Delta Leader had an excellent story by Boaz Joseph titled
Sanctuary for a century. Please click the link to access the story on-line.
This article gives a brief history of Port Kells and then goes on to discuss the history of the current St. Oswald's church building, celebrating 100 years since its construction.
The original church building built in 1892 was torn down at the insistence of the CNR in 1905. The community worshipped in parishioners homes until the building of the present structure in 1911.
Recently the Faith Community of St. Oswald's have faced some challenges. These challenges resulted in the temporary closing of the parish by Bishop Michael for a month at the end of 2010 beginning of 2011.
The church is now open for worship and its members plan to carry out their vision for mission and ministry, locally, regionally and throughout the world.
The Reverend Paul Illical, recently retired as Incumbent at St. Michael's Surrey has been appointed Interim, Priest-in-Charge by Bishop Michael for one year beginning, February 1st, 2011 at 1/4 time.
