Care + Share is the vehicle for our local collective giving in the Diocese of New Westminster. Because Care + Share overheads and administrative costs are met by the diocese, every cent of every dollar given reaches those who need it most.
For 2026–2027, Care + Share is partnering with St. Barnabas, New Westminster. Their outreach ministry is a hub of support for individuals and families facing food insecurity, social isolation, and other challenges. Each week, over 400 families receive support and encouragement through the dedication of volunteers and the leadership of the parish.

St. Barnabas has a long history of food ministry in New Westminster, serving the Brow of the Hill neighbourhood for decades. This is by no means a one-parish effort. There are several partners in this work, including Shiloh-Fifth Avenue United Church, with whom a weekly food bank is operated, The Grocery Project. As an agency of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, St Barnabas receives a delivery of four to five pallets of food on Wednesday mornings, which are distributed Wednesday afternoons. The Grocery Project now serves more than 360 households per week, representing 1,300–1,400 people. 2025 saw a 23% increase in households served. Clients of The Grocery Project are composed new immigrants, seniors, and people with disabilities.
St. Barnabas also offers a monthly Community Pancake Breakfast, and of course an annual Christmas Dinner, held on Christmas Day. People sometimes ask us, “Why don’t you hold your Christmas Dinner a week earlier like many organizations do?” The response is simple: Christmas Day can be a lonely and sad day for those who have no place to go and no one with whom to spend it, so St. Barnabas we will be the place where people can be together on Christmas Day. There is no shortage of volunteers who seek to help with this ministry; they often bring their whole families.
Finally, an important partnership that been developing for some time is one with the New Westminster Neighbourhood House. This partnership has enormous potential for sustaining and indeed expanding our service to our neighbourhood. The Neighbourhood House currently uses space at St. Barnabas to deliver expanding programs including a Monthly Community Dinner and family drop-ins. We look forward to this evolving opportunity.
