Cathedral Choir under the direction of Rupert Lang will lead the music in worship for this special Choral Evensong for the Feast of Ascension. The liturgy will be dedicated to the memory of Patrick Wedd. Canon Herbert O’Driscoll will be present to offer a homily.
Music in worship will include a selection of music composed by Patrick Wedd.
Patrick was organist and director of music at Christ Church Cathedral from 1975 to 1986. He had a larger than life personality, and boundless energy which was reflected in his music. Patrick effortlessly navigated different musical styles in order to provide a meaningful worship experience for the cathedral’s diverse congregation. Patrick's ministry has been a blessing to so many, including the countless young musicians that he inspired and mentored.
Patrick died in Montreal on May 19, 2019 at the age of 71 after a brief illness. He had just retired as director of music from Christ Church Cathedral, Montreal.
