The Sunshine Coast Vespersong Choir under the direction of David Poon will celebrate a service of Choral Evensong. The service begins at 5pm at St. Bart’s Anglican in Gibsons.
Vespersong seeks to preserve the heritage of traditional English liturgical music. Choir members are drawn mainly from Sechelt and Gibsons. Music featured includes:
- Charles Wood’s (1866-1926) "Precamini Felicitatem”,
- Preces and Responses by Richard Aleward (1626-1669),
- chanted Psalm settings by Joseph Barnby (1838-1896),
- the Short Service of Thomas Weelkes (1576-1623),
- and the Jubilate in B Flat by Charles Villiers Stanford (1852-1924).
The service itself dates back to 17th Century Anglicanism and promotes quiet reflection.
Doors open at 4:30.
Vespersong presents music two or three times a year in venues in Pender Harbour, Sechelt and Gibsons.
