Learn the fundamentals of community organizing and work for the common good.

The Metro Vancouver Alliance Leadership Institute is open to anyone in our diocese.

This civil society organization guides us to engage in our own parish, neighbourhood and with other organizations in addressing issues in our municipalities and the Province of BC.

It is based on building relationships across diverse sectors.

For any questions, please be in touch with the Rev. Margaret Marquardt, Chair of the diocesan Eco-Justice Unit (a member organization of Metro Vancouver Alliance).

The Eco-Justice Unit could cover the cost of the Leadership Institute if you are coming on behalf of your parish, will be taking the model back to you parish and are in touch with Margaret  regarding registering.

Our diocese is a Sponsoring  Organization of Metro Vancouver Alliance.

A vibrant and engaged civil society is vital for a healthy democracy. Our civil society institutions can nurture natural leaders to strengthen their own organizations and work with other civil society actors for the common good. Whether you want to develop leadership skills to contribute to your own congregation, union or group, or want to support broad-based community organizing through the Metro Vancouver Alliance, this workshop is a great place to start! We will explore the tested community organizing model developed by the Industrial Areas Foundation and practiced by community alliances in Canada, the US, UK, Germany, Australia and New Zealand.

Participants will leave with an understanding of the basics of community organizing and tools to strengthen their own congregation, union, community group or educational institution, and be inspired to assume leadership in their organization and community.

The leadership Institute is free for folks from MVA member institutions. Participants from non-members may pay $75 to take part. This may be applied to membership dues in the MVA if your institution later decides to join us.

Our Friday evening session begins at 7pm and runs until 9pm. Registration is open at 6.15pm. Our Saturday session starts at 9.30am and runs until 4pm. Refreshments and a light snack will be available on Friday evening and lunch on Saturday.
