It has been almost three years since then-Bishop, now Archbishop Melissa Skelton circulated a letter announcing the launch of a new initiative to help refugees cover extraordinary expenses not covered by the funding from their sponsors or the government.

The diocese as a Sponsorship Agreement Holder (SAH) has welcomed many newcomers since December 21, 2015, and much has been learned about the needs of these newcomers.

Archbishop Skelton is requesting that all of us consider a gift to the Fund at this time of year when giving is much on our collective minds. One of the primary needs that the fund has helped to address is dental care.  This important area of health and self-esteem is often neglected during extended periods of time in refugee camps. The fund has in some cases been able to cover these costly but necessary procedures for adults and children.

Financial resources from the Fund are also used to assist individuals and families cover other expenses after their first year of funding has concluded.

How to Give

Those wishing to contribute by credit card will find a "Give" button located at the top of each page (the header) of the diocesan website. For your convenience here is a DIRECT LINK TO THE GIVING PAGE. You can also text DONW to 7797, and this same contribution link will be texted to you. Please click on the dropdown box beside the words "Giving Type".

Those wishing to make a contribution by cheque, may make out the cheque to The Diocese of New Westminster, noting that it is for the Archbishop's Fund for Refugee Resettlement and mail it to: 1410 Nanton Avenue, Vancouver BC V6H 2E2.

And to let us know that you have seen this request please print "Dental Care" in the memo line.
