Anglicans, Lutherans start SFU chaplaincy

Diocesan Council voted last month to support a Lutheran-Anglican "Mountaintop Ministry" at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby.

Chaplain to SFU students will be the Rev. Stephanie Shephard of St. Timothy's, Burnaby. Other local clergy from both denominations will be invited to particate.

St. Michael’s congregation said to be growing

St. Michael's in Mount Pleasant, Vancouver, says its has grown over sixty per cent in 2007, with particular strength in the Filipino-Canadian part of the congregation.

St. Michael's celebrated Transfiguration Sunday by celebrating their own transfiguration and renewal, and their multi-cultural roots. The church is being painted, and a website established, www.stmikeschurch.ca. The parish is one of the oldest in the City of Vancouver, dating to 1889.

"Our register of members is at its highest since 1985," said Michiko Tatchell of the parish. "Our biggest problem with such large growth is a lack of hymnals and BAS prayer books. ‘Festival sale’ to benefit Ten Thousand Villages

A special "festival sale" is being held at St. Cuthbert's, North Delta, in conjunction with Ten Thousand Villages, a non-profit organization that helps Third World artisans by selling their work in North America.

Offered for sale will be a wide range of handcrafted gifts, including musical instruments, pottery, home décor, jewellery, toys, textiles, and food products.

Ten Thousand Villages is a program of the Mennonite Central Committee. It benefits over 60,000 Third World artisans by selling their goods at fair trade prices in retails shops and at festival sales.

Summer ‘arts and spirituality’ camp highly successful

Holy Trinity, White Rock, reports a highly successful intergenerational summer day camp took place this summer with the theme, "Spirituality and the Arts."

Eight workshops were held August 27 to 31, with participants involved in drawing, quilting, knitting, painting, needlepoint, and crafts.

The camp was organized by the Rev. Alexis Saunders, associate priest at Holy Trinity.
