The Diocesan Environmental Unit has launched a new web page designed to provide wisdom and resources for Anglicans – and Anglican parishes - on earth stewardship.

The website is intended become the public face of a network of 50 plus environmental stewards from parishes in the six dioceses throughout British Columbia and the Yukon who want to bring environmental issues from the margins to the mainstream of church life.

This site offers resources for a personal, political and prayerful response to environmental concerns.

At a personal level, one can use the Greenhouse Calculator to make a public pledge to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Issues such reducing carbon emissions, recycling and car pooling are best approached from the personal level - such as making a pledge to reduce carbon dioxide emission in a household by a set amount.

The political includes commitment to work with others in organized ways as in our annual promotion of the Blessing the Bicycles event.

A prayerful response involves reflecting on why one cares for the beauty and bounty of creation, and expressing that through collective worship. This site has worship resources also.

News and event items, links to environmental organizations, examples of the Diocesan community mapping project and a slide show of nature photos from the Sunshine Coast provided by David Dranchuk, diocesan coordinator for societal ministries, are also included.

The diocesan Environmental Unit hope that this site "evolves" as a node in a growing network of people prepared to make the changes necessary to bring a sustainable future for children and all relations in the natural world - as an act of faith.

The site is up and ready for visitors! Please, take a look, and send us your feedback, suggestions and contributions.

The Greeningspirit.ca website was made possible through a grant of $5,000 from Environment Canada (EcoAction Fund) and a grant of $12,000 from the Anglican Initiatives Fund, Diocese of New Westminster. The grant provides for development and ongoing maintenance.
