On Sunday, June 24th, the Parish of St. Michael’s, Surrey bid farewell to their Interim Priest-in-Charge of the past two years, Rev. Sue Foley-Currie. Sue took over following the 18 year incumbency of Father Paul Illical.
The sermon that Sue preached at the 11am Celebration of the Eucharist was a detailed description of her journey from federal government employee to ordination.
Following worship there was a well-attended Farewell Luncheon held in the Parish Hall featuring, presentations, speeches and of course a cake.
Gifts were presented by the ACW (Val Hampton co-president) and by church council (Anne MacLean) on behalf of the parishioners. All wished her a healthy happy retirement and an enjoyable “next chapter” in her ministry.
Rev. Sue’s leadership included enlisting more lay participation. She became a competent property manager and she was a great mentor to Rev Louis Engnan. She was the first female priest at St. Michael’s. Following the long incumbency of Father Paul she ably assisted in the transition with the least disruption to the congregation. Her assistance with MAP was much appreciated and her advice and counsel will help the parish make informed choices as they face the future.
Current Honorary Assistant, Rev. Luisto Engnan will take over as Interim Priest-in-Charge on a two year term, July 1st, the day following Sue’s June 30th retirement.
