Drilling for water on the property of the Church of the Holy Spirit, Whonnock

The Church of the Holy Spirit, Whonnock, has struck water, reports the Rev. David Findley-Price, rector. After two days of drilling water was found at the 178 foot level with a two minutes per gallon flow, adequate for parish needs.

Holy Spirit, until recently named St. John the Evangelist, needed to drill for water. Many years ago its surface water well was condemned. The parish had to truck in water, 1,000 gallons at a time. The limited supply of water had become a significant problem and threatened to limit parish growth.

The drilling was made possible by a $15,000 grant from the national Anglican Foundation, but the parish will have to continue fundraising to complete the project and bring the waters successfully to the church.

Before commencing on the project, the parish raised money for wells in Africa-in order to do something for others before doing something for ourselves, said Findley-Price.
