Mission to Seafarers Vancouver operates the Waterfront and Roberts Bank Seafarer Centres at the Port of Vancouver, providing welfare, hospitality, and pastoral support to seafarers from around the world. We are part of the global Mission to Seafarers network and are affiliated with the Anglican Diocese of New Westminster.

We are looking for an experienced and compassionate manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our two Seafarer Centres. Reporting to the Port Chaplain, the Centre Manager is the operational heart of our Vancouver mission — responsible for our team, our facilities, and the quality of care and hospitality we extend to every seafarer who walks through our doors.

Location: Port of Vancouver — Waterfront and Roberts Bank Seafarer Centres

Reports to: Port Chaplain

Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday (full-time, permanent)

Salary: $75,000–$85,000 CAD, commensurate with experience

Benefits: Per Diocese of New Westminster

The Role

We are looking for an experienced and compassionate manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our two Seafarer Centres. Reporting to the Port Chaplain, the Centre Manager is the operational heart of our Vancouver mission — responsible for our team, our facilities, and the quality of care and hospitality we extend to every seafarer who walks through our doors.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and manage Centre staff, including hiring, scheduling, training, and performance.
  • Oversee day-to-day Centre operations — facilities, vehicles, retail services, and financial administration.
  • Welcome seafarers and ensure they receive responsive, respectful welfare support.
  • Coordinate emergency welfare responses under the direction of the Port Chaplain.
  • Manage transportation services using Mission vehicles in coordination with chaplains and volunteers.
  • Monitor revenue streams including the Ship Port Levy and retail (bar and souvenir sales).
  • Research grant funding opportunities and support fundraising events.
  • Maintain Health and Safety compliance and ensure statutory checks are completed on schedule.
  • Assist the Port Chaplain with the quarterly newsletter, social media presence, and supporter communications.

What We're Looking For 

  • At least five years’ experience in management, administration, or a related field.
  • Strong organisational skills and confidence managing budgets, payroll, and reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, information/document management, and QuickBooks (or equivalent accounting software).
  • A warm, inclusive approach and genuine concern for the well-being of others.
  • Comfortable working within a Christian organisational ethos and as part of an ecumenical team.
  • Resilient, calm under pressure, and able to respond to unpredictable situations with good judgement.
  • Must be able to obtain a Police Information Check.
  • Must possess a clean BC Class 5 drivers licence.
