Description:
The Bishop of the Diocese of New Westminster is seeking applications for the position of Street Outreach Priest and Associate Priest of the Parish of St James, Vancouver. This is a full-time, permanent position.
This is a unique position operating out of the Downtown East Side (DTES) and the Anglo-Catholic Parish of St James. The role is rooted in pastoral presence, bringing the altar to the street and the street to the altar.
The Street Outreach Priest offers a client-focused, pastoral, street outreach ministry by walking the streets with marginalized individuals, many of whom live with the impacts of long-term trauma and systemic injustice.

Some notable features of the role include:
Street-involved adults living in Vancouver’s DTES struggle daily with poverty, mental illness, drug addiction, alcoholism, violence, social isolation, and with the legacy of past traumas. In the midst of this the Street Outreach Priest seeks by word and deed, to remind each person they encounter of their infinite value in the eyes of God. The DTES is a place where anything can and does happen, where no day is typical, and where Jesus Christ is found in the least expected persons and places.

- Ability to perform physically demanding work in outdoor environments, including prolonged standing, walking long distances and adverse weather conditions.
