In the accompanying photo we see members of Metro Vancouver Alliances (MVA) labour and faith organizations meeting with Burnaby Mayor Elect Mike Hurley on November 1 (he is centre in the photo).
He was officially sworn in as mayor on Monday, November 5.
This was an opportunity to meet Mike Hurley and let him know about the work of the non-partisan MVA in issues that he has raised regarding the living wage, affordable housing and public transit.
It was also an opportunity for him to hear about the kind of relationship building that the Alliance is grounded on and hear about his commitment to work in relationship with different sectors of the community.
The Diocese of New Westminster is one of the Sponsoring Organizations with Metro Vancouver Alliance and a number of parishes along with the Eco-Justice Unit of the diocese are member organizations of MVA.
For any further information about this civil society organization and the upcoming Leadership Institute, please be in touch with the chair of the Eco-Justice Unit, the Rev. Margaret Marquardt.
