The Rev. Eve Wiseman has agreed to be the interim priest-in-charge at St. Thomas Chilliwack, beginning November 1.

The Parish of St. John the Evangelist, North Vancouver, was shocked by the Beslan school massacre in the Russian town of Beslan, North Ossetia. Armed terrorists kept hundreds of schoolchildren and adults hostage and, after a shootout with Russian security forces, over 300 people were killed, half of them children. Members of the parish held a memorial service of music which was hosted by the parish music coordinator, Galina Martyniouk, and involved Alex Shaladin, Mei Huang, Brock Lupton, Elena Bokova, Irna Faletski, Olga and Dina Kholina and David Rabinovich. Proceeds went to the International Red Cross.


Anne Field, member of Diocesan Council from St. Cuthbert, Delta, has been accepted as a member of a trek to Machu Picchu, Lima, which she describes as "a very special and spiritual place." The trek along the Inca Trail is being organized by the Alzheimers Society of the United Kingdom, and is a fundraiser. Field says she plans several fundraisers in advance of the trip next May, including a dance, pub night, and cultural evening.


The youth group at St. Francis in the Woods, West Vancouver, has raised over $23,000 for victims of violence in the Darfur region of Sudan. More than fifty teens from six North Shore high schools got involved. The group is also lobbying governments in Canada, the US, and Britain to act to stop the violence.
