Barbara Clay

The Ven. Barbara Clay, Archdeacon of Westminster has announced to her congregation at St. Lawrence, Coquitlam, that she will be retiring January 9. She served for two years as a deacon then as a priest at Christ Church Cathedral then went on to St. Lawrence where she has been for nearly two decades.

The bishop has appointed the Rev. Jim McCullum as an Examining Chaplain, replacing the Rev. John Flynn who has moved to B.C. Diocese. McCullum, a retired Vancouver School of Theology professor and an honourary assistant at Christ Church Cathedral, in September hosted his Toronto-based brother Hugh McCullum, author of a new biography of the late Archbishop Ted Scott.

The Rev. Charles Lenz has left St. Thomas', Chilliwack, after nearly twelve years there. Prior to that, Lenz was rector of Christ the King, Burnaby for ten years.

Jane Osler of Christ Church Cathedral has been appointed by the bishop chair of the diocesan Communications Committee. She previously chaired the Stewards in Action campaign. Remaining on the committee will be the former chair, Ruth Anderson of St. Catherine's, Port Coquitlam, who will also be involved in the synod planning group.

At the Whistler Village Church, an ecumenical body involving the United Church and the Evangelical Lutherans as well as our diocese, the Rev. Steve Hershey left last month after two years of work for Woodstock, Ontario.

Returning to the diocese from study in California is the Rev. Neil Fernyhough who became temporary priest-in-charge at Christ the Redeemer, Surrey, last month.

Appointed to the Administration and Finance committee of the diocese have been Bonnie Fulton of Christ Church Cathedral and Nancy Zimmerman of St. James. Retiring from the committee after two separate terms is Carole Neilson of St. Christopher's, West Vancouver.

Retired diocesan Bishop Douglas Hambidge on September 26 celebrated his 50th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood at a service at his home parish of All Saints, Ladner, and later at a luncheon at an inn nearby.

The Rev. Alan Kerr, retired former Rector of St. Helen's, Point Grey, married long-time St. Helen's parishioner and leader Mrs. Lena Fisher on August 14th at his old parish, officiated by the Rev. Brian Vickers, the present rector.

Ashley Brear, recently a youth representative on Diocesan Council and parishioner at St. Agnes, North Vancouver, has found she must resume chemotherapy for a recurrence of Hodgkin's lymphoma. Her father reports she is very optimistic and remains strong.
