November is appeal month for Mission to Seafarers, and parishes will soon be getting information on how people can get involved as volunteers or donors.

The Rev. William Pike, who heads the 100-year-old mission, said that an edition of the "Flying Angel Review" will help answer questions.

Pike said that many parishes include the work of the mission in their outreach budgets, and some Anglican Church Women groups make plans to support the mission at this time of year.

"We all depend on seafarers to bring us many of the goods we enjoy," said Pike. "We need to look after them spiritually, physically and emotionally."

Pike and full-time chaplains from three other denominations assisted by volunteers visit nearly every ship that docks locally - at Vancouver, Robert's Bank, North Shore, Fraser River or Surrey docks.
