At 2pm on the afternoon of Wednesday, December 4, the Synod staff of the Diocese of New Westminster met for their last scheduled meeting of 2019.

Just a few minutes after 2pm, the meeting chaired by Anglican Archivist, Marché Riley got off to a high energy start with the singing of Happy Birthday to diocesan Communications Officer, Randy Murray. Randy also cut the cake, and with the help of Executive Assistant to the Archbishop’s and Executive Archdeacon’s Office, Bill Siksay, served the cake during the opening agenda items.

It is to be noted that Randy’s December 9 birthday is shared by a number of noteworthy Anglicans known to members of the Diocese of New Westminster: the Venerable John Bailey; the Reverend Elizabeth Northcott; the Reverend Canon Dr. Ellen Clark-King and last on this short list, John Milton.

Among the items discussed at the meeting were:

  • The changes to the Synod Office’s opening hours, now 9am to 4pm
  • All staff are to take part in a First Aid & CPR with AED training to place at the Synod Office on January 29th Wednesday, from 8:30am until 4:30pm
  • The Reverend Dr. Tellison Glover, Director for Mission and Ministry Development had returned to his family home in the Bahamas on December 1. Tellison’s mother, Theresa Balfour, died of complications due to cancer on Tuesday, December 3. Staff shared their condolences and prayers were offered. A flower arrangement was ordered and delivered to Tellison’s family within 36 hours.
  • The new time for mid-day prayers at the Synod Office is 12:15pm.
  • The finance team discussed the implementation of the new payroll system.
  • Year two of the daily Advent email reflections programme has gone very well and those receiving the emails have provided the Reverend Jessica Schaap, Missioner for Christian Formation with very positive feedback.

At the conclusion of the December meeting's agenda, Administrative Assistant for Finance, Rachel Taylor put in place stacks of Christmas cards on the meeting tables, staffed the wine and appies bar and the meeting transformed into “Wine and Sign” the annual Synod staff Christmas card signing event.

The next Staff Meeting is scheduled for January 8, 2020.
