"A missional church is a community of people who look outward and are able to connect with others that are not already members of a church organization"
 - Reggie McNeal, Missional Renaissance)

Does your parish:

  • Believe that stewardship is more than simply asking parishioners to give more money?
  • Want to change from a theology of scarcity to a theology of abundance?
  • Want to try something different with a small group to see if that approach makes transformative change to the group and those it serves?
  • Want to do more with less?

If you answered, yes, to any of these questions, then you may be interested in Stewardship 365-2022. S365-2022 will explore Eric Law’s holistic model for stewardship and congregational vitality, Holy Currencies, to move your parish beyond “time, talent, and treasure” to create missional and sustainable ministries. This model with its processes, enables church leaders to understand, develop, and utilize five other kinds of currencies besides money that are essential for creating sustainable and missional ministries. These currencies are: Time & Place, Gracious Leadership, Relationship, Truth, and Wellness.  These currencies flow and recirculate to form a Cycle of Blessings which empower congregations to strengthen their internal relationships as well as reach out and connect with the diverse populations in their neighborhoods.

Stewardship365-2022 is an in-depth examination and exploration of the Holy Currencies introduced to the Diocese of New Westminster last spring. Participation in S365-2022 will begin a process that empowers a group within your parish to expand their vision of stewardship beyond money to include the currencies of relationship, truth, wellness, gracious leadership, time and place. Through this process, participants will create a year-around stewardship movement enabling the congregation to shift from maintenance to mission, from scarcity to abundance and from fear to grace. As last year, The Kaleidoscope Institute will facilitate the sessions, with diocesan facilitators available to assist when needed.

Stewardship365-2022 will consist of six on-line, one day training workshops with all parishes attending, interspersed by six evening sessions for each parish to explore more of the materials presented, reflect on the relevance of the information to your parish and introduce the next session. Participants will be required to read and prepare for upcoming workshops. Dates for workshops are: February 19; March 12; March 26; April 9; April 30 and May 14 and will be held between 9am to 4pm with breaks for lunch and snacks.

Parishes are asked to bring a team of at least four people, and preferably five, one of which is suggested a clergy representative. The cost to participate is $500 per parish (with the diocese contributing $1500-2000 per parish).

Following the workshops, your team should have the skills and confidence needed to develop and refine a program to make Holy Currencies a part of your parish. You are not expected to introduce all the currencies at one time but will be encouraged to engage with the one or two that appear to have the most interest to your team at first and then in later years introduce the others. The Diocese is prepared to support your journey as you move forward with additional training and facilitation.
