The weather during June, 2012, in the MVA was pretty terrible.
By Friday, June 22nd, the clouds had darkened and the rain was falling in many Lower Mainland communities, but that did not prevent St. Agnes, North Vancouver’s Swing into Summer potluck supper from going ahead as scheduled.
Not every parish has a rector who plays drums and leads an 8 piece jazz band but that is the case at St. Agnes. Rev. Stephen Muir is the drummer for Original Blend a community swing and jazz band consisting of: alto and tenor saxes, trombone, trumpet, guitar, bass, keyboard and of course drums.
The band delighted the diners who gathered in the Parish Hall with a pre-supper set of tunes which included the Belle Baker standard "All of Me" and an ironic choice, Gershwin’s, "Summertime."
Following the 20 minute opening set, dinner was served and the St. Agnes community together with friends and of course the guest musicians lined up for a mouth watery array of potluck favourites.
Original Blend performed two more sets and everyone gathered had a wonderful time.
