The Venerable Louis (Lou) Ernest Rivers died in his home surrounded by loved ones, Friday, September 14th, 2012, after a lengthy illness.
Lou was born June 25th, 1945, he was Ordained Deacon in 1972 and Priest in 1973. He married Georgina (Georgie) May 24th, 1969 and they have two children, Angela and Teddy.
Lou received a BA from Concordia (Sir George William University) in 1970 with a major in applied Social Science. His undergraduate education was disrupted when he left his studies in 1967 due to the sudden death of his father to work in the personnel department of Crawley and McCracken a major catering firm. He returned to “Sir George” in 1969 and completed his degree.
Lou received his BTh in 1972 from McGill University. He was fluent in English and French.
He began his life in ordained ministry as Curate of Christ Church, Grande Prairie from 1972 – 1973 and was ultimately appointed Rector there, remaining until 1979 when he applied for the position of Incumbent of Holy Trinity Cathedral, New Westminster. Lou was appointed to that position and was in ministry at HT May 1, 1979 – October 31, 1987. He was collated Archdeacon of Westminster in 1985 and 11 days after his appointment as Incumbent of St. Christopher’s, West Vancouver, November 1st, 1987 he was installed as Archdeacon of Capilano. Lou continued these ministries until his retirement June 30th, 2011, spanning an incredible 24 years.
Lou was remembered during a celebration of his life Friday, September 21st, at 11am at St. Christopher’s Anglican Church, Bishop Michael will officiated at the Funeral and retired Archbishop Douglas Hambidge presided at the Eucharist, with The Venerable Barbara Clay, retired Archdeacon of Westminster, as the homilist. There was a huge turnout of colleagues and friends who had shared ministry with Lou.
Lou's son Ted at the beginning of his reflection informed the congregation that there was a memorial service going on at exactly the same  at Christ Church, Grand Prairie where Lou was curate and incumbent.
