Sechelt Parish Re-Opens Shelter February 22, 2023

Sechelt Parish Re-Opens Shelter February 22, 2023

The Parish of St. Hilda’s-by-the-Sea makes beds available for those displaced by water damage

Thirty-four people were staying at the Upper Deck shelter on Wharf Avenue in Sechelt when, in the early hours of February 7, a fire broke out. Extensive water damage from the sprinklers forced the immediate closure of the building, which also housed an overdose prevention site and Angelo’s Pizza.

The Cost

The Cost

Lenten Reflection by Herbert O'Driscoll

In flippant phrases such as “there’s no free lunch” we acknowledge a deep truth about life. Everything has a cost.

We could add that the more something is real and true, whether it be a kitchen utensil or a human life, the greater the cost is likely to be. That’s why love can be the costliest thing of all.

THE LANGUAGE OF LAMENT - Part I

THE LANGUAGE OF LAMENT - Part I

Hannah Main-van der Kamp

February 2023. The Turkish rescue worker looked at the camera when asked to describe what he’s experiencing. He answers, “Hell” and says no more.

There are no words to describe that devastation. When the scale of the disaster became clear, the word “disaster” became meaningless.
