Today we honour Gregory the Illuminator, the Apostle of the Armenians, who illumined his nation with the light of the gospel. In fact, it was through his ministry that Armenia became the first kingdom in the ancient world to make Christianity its official religion.

Two Melanesian Brothers from the Solomon Islands, Brother Nelson Bako and Father Richard Nokia (Chaplain) who visited the Diocese of New Westminster for 10 days in mid-March experience snow in-person for the first time.

The Board of the diocesan Anglican Church Women are thankful to the many people who've worked diligently over the years to help the diocesan ACW thrive in God's service. With the smart initiatives of those before us, and the sale of the W.A. Memorial House in Vancouver, we have the means to flourish for generations to come. Sadly, we've hit a snag. Our currently leased warehouse in Burnaby will have a significant increase in rent at the end of the lease on May 31.  

St. Alban the Martyr, Burnaby is a little church with a big heart - a big heart for people. Having sponsored a Syrian refugee family in 2014 (and providing emotional support over the four years {2014 to 2018} that it took for that application to be submitted and approved before the family finally landed in Canada), the parish has valuable experience when it comes to sponsorships.

On March 17, 2023, at 6:30pm members of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew gathered for a Vigil Service at Avalon Surrey Memorial Home for the late Brother John Maingag.

The Ecumenical/Multi-Faith Unit Group and the Bishop of New Westminster have coordinated a letter of greeting to local Muslim communities at the start of their holy month of Ramadan. This year Ramadan begins on March 23.

The purpose of these gatherings on March 28 and 29 both at 6:30pm is to give Synod delegates an opportunity to preview important matters that will be discussed in detail at Synod 2023. However, all are welcome to attend these online sessions.

We will start with a welcome and ice breaker games. Drinks will be available too as you come in. We will then learn a little bit about Holy Week and Easter. We are then planning to get creative and make some Holy anointing oil together which will include infusing local herbs, branches and flowers in oil.

Your team will use this awareness to shift your parish's attention toward building more meaningful relationships with seekers and newcomers. Come expecting to develop a strategy for implementing new habits that form a more welcoming, engaging, and generous community.

On Wednesday, March 15 at 1pm a Requiem Mass was held for the late the Reverend John Carter Blyth (November 19, 1935 – February 27, 2023). Here is a link to Br. John's obituary on the diocesan website which chronicles his extraordinary life in ordained ministry including his adoption into the Nisga'a' First Nation and his membership in the Melanesian Brotherhood.
