On Easter Sunday, Mary took this photo of an eagle perched on the cross atop St. James' in Vancouver's downtown eastside. Eagles have been photographed on this cross and on the roof before, so we might assume that this eagle doesn't just attend at Easter.

Easter Day 2023 was the Reverend Martin's first Easter following her ordination to the priesthood late last year. The parish is celebrating its sesquecentennial this year and there is a lot of excitement about Anglican ministry in Chilliwack.

Easter week has a reassuring similarity for Anglicans who attend worship all over the world. They know what to expect and look forward to the feelings of warmth, joy and satisfaction that come from repeating the rituals. As they age, there is a feeling of coming home at Easter, to a group of parishioners who are like family.

Cold morning in early spring after a freezing night. On the bare branches of an alder, two dozen robins, perfectly still and silent, all face in the same direction, southeast. The tree is adorned with puffed up rusty-gold feathered things, soaking up the morning sun.  

I met her some years ago when she was in the city for a Conference at the University of British Columbia. She had attended the 11am service at Christ Church Cathedral, Vancouver. She told me that wherever she was in the world she tried to find what she called “my dear old C of E.”

The Board of the diocesan Anglican Church Women are thankful to the many people who've worked diligently over the years to help the diocesan ACW thrive in God's service. With the smart initiatives of those before us, and the sale of the W.A. Memorial House in Vancouver, we have the means to flourish for generations to come. Sadly, we've hit a snag. Our currently leased warehouse in Burnaby will have a significant increase in rent at the end of the lease on May 31.

On April 14, 2016, BC declared a public health emergency around the number of opioid related deaths. At that time the rate of overdose deaths was 20.4 per 100,000 people. Eight years later the rate of overdose deaths is almost 42 per 100,000. Thousands of our family members, friends and neighbours have died.

All are welcome to attend a night of entertainment as the White Rock parish welcomes Elvis Tribute Artist Ben Klein to the Church of the Holy Trinity.

Your team will use this awareness to shift your parish's attention toward building more meaningful relationships with seekers and newcomers. Come expecting to develop a strategy for implementing new habits that form a more welcoming, engaging, and generous community.
