Welcome to the April 13, 2023 E-News
On Easter Sunday, Mary took this photo of an eagle perched on the cross atop St. James' in Vancouver's downtown eastside. Eagles have been photographed on this cross and on the roof before, so we might assume that this eagle doesn't just attend at Easter. |

Thoughts on the Afternoon of Maundyby Herbert O'Driscoll The Church of St. Peter Gallicantu (the Cockcrowing) stands on the steep slope of the Kidron Valley south of the walls of the old city of Jerusalem. To go deep into its foundations is to touch a grim world where official and often brutal questioning of prisoners was carried out. This is where Jesus was taken from his arrest in Gethsemene.

"All We Do is Hide Away"Good Friday Reflection - Stephen Rowe These are the opening lines to a song by British alt-pop duo, Anthony and Josephine Vander West. They came to my notice when watching a crime series called Unforgotten on The Knowledge Network. For me it became one of those tunes you found yourself humming time after time.

Hope is the Thing with FeathersPart II of "The Language of Lament", of which Part I was published on the diocesan blogsite, March 7 and in the April 2023 issue of Topic Cold morning in early spring after a freezing night. On the bare branches of an alder, two dozen robins, perfectly still and silent, all face in the same direction, southeast. The tree is adorned with puffed up rusty-gold feathered things, soaking up the morning sun.
