Our second Choral Evensong this season offers a comforting blend of old and new. Within the contemporary language of this Pray Without Ceasing Evening Prayer service, canticles, responses, and a psalm setting by English Tudor composer, Thomas Tallis (c1505-1585) anchor us in a sense of tradition. The annual reading of the memorial roll is a beautiful way we remember and acknowledge those who have passed from this life in recent years. A newly composed sung intercessions (music by St. Mary's Director of Music, Michael Park, text by St. Mary's Associate Priest, Rev'd Roberta Fraser) reminds us that God's gift of new life heals spirits on both sides of the grave. Eleanor Daley's gorgeous And God Shall Wipe Away All Tears and a selection of comforting hymns serve to remind us of the beauty in community that surrounds us, this day and always.
