The Bishop-elect of the Diocese of New Westminster, the Rev. Canon Melissa Skelton was in the diocese February 5-7, meeting with the Diocesan Executive Officers on the 5th and attending the all-day BARDDSS meeting, February 6th, held at St. George’s, Fort Langley. BARDDSS is an acronym that stands for Bishop, Archdeacons, Regional Deans, Diocesan Dean and Senior Staff. In this case “B” stands for Bishop-elect and the Dean of the Diocese, the Very Reverend Peter Elliott who is currently Administrator of the Diocese, chaired the meeting . This group of leaders in our diocesan shared ministry meets 3-4 times a year.

 Part of the morning agenda was spent with the Reverend Dr. Richard Leggett providing an executive summary of the March 1st, Ordination and Installation liturgy and some further discussions about the many details involved in planning this historic event.

The Rev. Helen Tervo began as the temporary Priest-in-Charge, at St Dunstan’s, Aldergrove effective February 1, 2014, and will remain until a new Incumbent is appointed.

 On February 1st 2104 the Rev. John Firmston, began as temporary Priest-in-Charge at St Martin’s, North Vancouver. John will be available to the Parish on a ½ time basis while the canonical process is completed and a new Incumbent is appointed.

Holy Trinity, Vancouver welcomed the Rev. Karl Przywala as their new priest on February 1, 2014 and Candlemas, (Feb 2nd) was his first Sunday. Karl’s induction as Incumbent of Holy Trinity, Vancouver will be on Tuesday, February 18th at 7pm. The preacher will be the Ven John Stephens, Archdeacon of Vancouver.

The Reverend John Sovereign, rector of St Thomas, Chilliwack, on the recommendation of his clerical colleagues, has been appointed Regional Dean of Yale. John succeeds the Rev. Paul Guiton who retired on January 31st, 2014. John attended his first BARDDSS meeting on February 6th.

 In case you missed it: The Rev. Dr. Richard Leggett was elected Editor-in-Chief of the Anglican Theological Review in September 2013, having served as Guest Editor for the Summer 2013 issue. He assumed the position, January 1st, 2014. Richard succeeded the Rev. Dr. Ellen K Wondra, Professor and Academic Dean of Bexley-Seabury, Chicago.
