On Friday, November 26, Ms. Joy Kogawa was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun by Japan (Japanese Emperor). This is equivalent to the Order of Canada, which Joy received in 1988. The Order of the Rising Sun was awarded to Joy in a ceremony held at the Consul General's Official Residence in Shaughnessy, and was attended by over 50 of Joy's family, friends and associates. The theme of Joy's acceptance speech was Reconciliation, which was also the theme of the Consul General's remarks preceding conferring the Order.
