The third week of January, 2012, will be remembered in Lower Mainland weather history as one of the strangest stretches of winter weather ever experienced. Temperatures plummeted to near record lows as an arctic front covered much of the province, following a Pineapple Express period of very mild temperatures.
Parts of the Fraser Valley, Washington State and Southern Vancouver Island received upwards of 30 centimetres of the chilly white stuff while the City of Vancouver, North Vancouver and West Vancouver had much lower accumulations.
The Very Reverend Peter Elliott ventured outside Christ Church Cathedral in downtown Vancouver on January 18th, the snowiest and coldest day of the snap and was greeted by some graffiti in the snow on a part of the construction of the new Hillman Garden which faces Burrard street to the west in front of the Cathedral. He took a photograph of the graffiti and sent it to diocesan communications to share. The Hillman Garden is scheduled to be dedicated later in the Spring of 2012.
