The Rev. Douglas Stewart, who served at St. Michael's, Surrey, and St. Christopher's, West Vancouver, died Feb. 22 in White Rock. He was 83.

Stewart was born in Winnipeg, and after a time in the insurance industry enrolled at Wycliffe College, Toronto, and was ordained priest in 1956. He served in the Dioceses of Rupert's Land and Edmonton before moving to the Diocese of New Westminster. He retired from St. Michael's in 1992.

He was the first incumbent of St. Peter's, South Winnipeg, and a curate and later canon at St. John's Cathedral in Winnipeg. After a private cremation, a memorial service and internment will take place in Winnipeg.
