ALL ARE WELCOME - SPREAD THE WORD

The much anticipated consecration and installation of Melissa Skelton as the 9th Bishop of New Westminster will take place on Saturday, March 1, 2014. This day is also known as St. David’s Day, and as the day commemorates a renowned teacher and preacher, it is a fitting day for us to celebrate with our new bishop.

We are expecting a large number of visitors to join us. Joining the Ordaining Bishop, Archbishop John Privett will be our Primate, the Most Reverend Fred Hiltz who will Celebrate the Eucharist. And we are expecting to welcome other bishops, clergy, and lay people from across Canada and the U.S. to celebrate with us, including the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Olympia, the Right Reverend Greg Rickel who will preach at the Consecration and Ordination Eucharist.

The day will be comprised of several elements, taking place in different locations. The first component is the Ordination and Consecration. This will be taking place at 1pm at the Vancouver Convention Centre, East Hall C (under the sails). Doors open at 12noon. The Convention Centre is easily accessible by skytrain and seabus at the Waterfront Station. Parking will be available in Park Place Parkade for $5 per car (please have the correct amount ready for the attendant) enter off Hornby just south of Dunsmuir. Following the consecration, we will celebrate the Eucharist together with our new bishop. The liturgical colour for the day will be white.

After the Eucharist we will gather on the plaza of the Vancouver Convention Centre for a procession led by the Kwhlii Gibaygum Nisga'a Traditional Dancers in the southbound lane of Burrard Street up to Christ Church Cathedral. Once we are all in place, the new bishop will be installed and seated. This is a short service, and is expected to begin at approximately 3:45pm.

Immediately following the Installation service, there will be a reception with light refreshments on both levels of Christ Church Cathedral.
