The Parish of St. John’s Shaughnessy is 100 Years Young!
For a century, people of faith have gathered in the parish church of St. John’s Shaughnessy. Throughout that time, all who have entered our doors have been inspired by the beauty of our architecture, windows, music, and liturgy. To mark this significant milestone, the parish will hold a special service of celebration on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
The Most Reverend John Stephens, Archbishop of New Westminster, will preside and bless the newly restored stained-glass windows. The Very Reverend Dr. David Monteith, Dean of Canterbury Cathedral, will preach. Dean Monteith is joining us for this occasion because of the historic connection between St. John’s and Canterbury Cathedral: the windows being rededicated incorporate 13th-century glass salvaged from Canterbury after a bombing raid during the Second World War.
David McGregor, an award-winning British composer and arranger, was commissioned to write a new mass setting for the occasion, titled The Shaughnessy Mass. His music has been performed internationally to critical acclaim, and he will be in attendance for this special celebration.
