Archbishop Douglas Hambidge retired Bishop of the Diocese of New Westminster and Metropolitan of the Ecclesiastical Province of BC and Yukon was ordained to the diaconate in St. Paul's Cathedral, London on the Feast of St. Michael & All Angels 1953, by Bishop J.W.C. Wand, Bishop of London, in 1953, and priested the following year on the same feast day in the same cathedral by the same bishop. ​On both occasions there were about thirty ordained to each order.

Archbishop Douglas asked that diocesan communications publish the following in order to share his message of gratitude with the D of NW community and beyond. 

"May I, through you and Topic, send a word of thanks and appreciation for the many greetings and good wishes I received as I celebrated sixty years since my ordination to the priesthood.
Special thanks to the Bishop, the Synod Office folk, the Archdeacons and Regional Deans, and others in the diocese.
I am richly blessed by so many wonderful friends, and I give thanks to God for good health and continuing opportunities for ministry."
