The sounds of choral music are filling the sanctuary of St. John’s Shaughnessy this Advent, November 27, Dec 4-18. Bishop Michael was able to make arrangements with Dr. Diane Loomer, one of Vancouver’ best-known and most respected choral music directors to have music in worship at the 10 am service of Holy Communion led by members of her newest ensemble, EnChor.
EnChor is a mixed-voice choir (SATB) consisting of highly skilled and experienced singers 55 years of age and older. A goodly number of the full membership of EnChor committed to singing at SJS for Advent and their number is bolstered by a few SJS parishioners, including musicians Stephen Pickett (pianist at the 8 am service) and Paul Bunnell (organist at the 10 am service).
Under Dr. Loomer’s expert and sensitive direction this choir makes a beautiful sound.
Balance, blend and dynamic interpretation have been the hallmarks of Dr. Loomer’s choirs and EnChor is no exception.
There have been suggestions that members of EnChor may form the core of a choir for this Christmas Eve but of this writing that is unconfirmed. Stay tuned
Bishop Michael with St. John’s Shaughnessy, Priest-in-Charge, the Venerable John Stephens and Associate Priest-in-Charge, the Venerable Andrew Pike would welcome EnChor and Dr. Loomer’s participation at anytime. Thank-you Diane and many thanks to EnChor.
