St. Philip’s seeks a Buildings Steward who can help us proactively care for our buildings and support community events. Candidates will have experience in building maintenance and cleaning, the skills to do minor repairs and be physically able to do such work as setting up tables and chairs. A Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Persons Check is required. Knowledge of the Anglican Church is not required but is an asset.

Employment Details: 

Hours/Week: 25-30 hours/week; Tuesday-Saturday during the day

Responsibilities:

1. Building Maintenance

• Facilitate annual building maintenance
• Minor maintenance and repairs as needed
• Monthly inspections (AED, fire extinguishers etc.)
• Risk Management reviews and recommendations for implementation
• Ensure entrances and pathways are clear of debris or snow during work hours
• Receive and direct hired Trades people when contracted during your work hours. 

2. Cleaning

• Weekly cleaning of the Hall Building and Office Building (not the church).
• Twice weekly cleaning and stocking of washrooms ( 5 single toilet washrooms).
• Pre and post special event cleaning as directed.

3. Special Event Support

• Set up and take down for parish events, weddings/funerals or rental groups that happen within working hours.
• Open and close for special events that happen within work hours.
• Ready the Memorial Garden for committal of ashes as directed by the Rector.

4. Tracking and Ordering of supplies

• Track all building maintenance and cleaning supplies and submit orders via the main office within the maintenance budget.

5. Waste Management

• Ensure garbage and recycle bins are ready for collection and the area around the bins is tidy.

6. Legacy Project

• Compile a comprehensive maintenance manual including equipment list ( location, make, model and any regular maintenance required).

Qualifications & Skills

• Completion of secondary school
• General maintenance skills (minor painting, basic carpentry, and general repairs)
• Good interpersonal skills to work harmoniously with other staff, building renters and the church community.
• Ability to lift heavy objects such as wooden pews and tables
• Effective time management skills • High degree of flexibility
• Fluent in English; good written and verbal communication skills
• Occupational First Aid Level 1 preferred but not required.

Annual Vacation: 2 weeks paid vacation per year with additional unpaid time off negotiable. Accountability: The position is accountable to the Rector and Wardens with regular reporting to Trustees. Standard 90 day probationary period with a six-month review in the first year, followed by annual performance reviews thereafter.
